We recommend you only apply for positions that match your skills and experience – to ensure you’re putting your best foot forward.

2. Time to look at your CV
Our hiring managers know their roles best and what makes a successful person so they will assess your application based on the information you provided. If we any questions we will contact you to clarify things. Once all applications have been assessed they will let the Recruitment team know which candidates they would like to interview.
3. It’s time for an interview
If successful the Recruitment team members will phone you to arrange an interview. The Council uses the STAR technique to interview, check out our interview guide to help you show us your best.
4. Possible testing
We may wish to arrange some personality and/or cognitive ability testing at some stage during the process. This provides us with additional information that helps us to further assess your suitability for the role.
5. References checks and background checks
At this point we will ask to contact your referees. You will need to provide us with the contact details for two referees with whom you have worked closely. One of them will ideally be the Manager to whom you have or did previously report to.
Depending on the type of position you are being considered for you may be required to complete additional checks such as credit or criminal history or qualification checks.
6. We've found our candidate
If you are successful you will get a phone call from the hiring manager advising you that you are our preferred candidate.
